In the early 1900s, floods of
Italian immigrants settled in the Federal Hill community.
Their basic needs were evident, so "FHH" established programs
to help the immigrants become well adjusted, self-sustaining
citizens who could integrate into the American way of life.
Home management, social behavior, citizenship, and English
classes, economics, and a host of other programs were started,
all with a dual focus: immediate needs and immediate help. The
efforts of those programs helped many future leaders in all
walks of life.
FHH programs today continue to meet similar social needs
throughout the community, though we constantly alter and
upgrade our programs to meet ever-changing community needs.
For people who require
personal and/or social assistance, we provide both in-house
and outreach services.
