Federal Hill House:
Foster Grandparent Program
Like all programs at FHH, the
Foster Grandparent Program evolved from a need within the
community. A Corporation for National Services program, it
enables all ages and backgrounds to make their communities
safer, healthier, and stronger through service.
Our "FGP" program is affiliated
with nearly 50 sites throughout Providence, including public
and private schools, home day-care sites, Family Court, and
community centers.
Seniors age 60 and older serve as
mentors, tutors, and caregivers for children and youth with
special needs, offering emotional support to children who
have been abused and neglected. Foster Grandparents receive
a modest tax-free stipend, reimbursement for transportation,
meals during service, annual physical exams, and accident
and liability insurance while on duty. The Foster
Grandparent Program also enables participants to share a
lifetime of experience with youth, and to support youth and
build bridges across generations.
