Who We Are:
People Helping People
Ever since the 1880s, when Federal Hill House was a settlement house for immigrants, our focus has been people helping people.
Today, we help people of all colors and ethnic backgrounds – both new arrivals and longtime residents, all of whom have one thing in common: they have critical basic human needs.
Our services are focused on helping people help themselves. Staffed by both paid, highly trained workers and by volunteers, Federal Hill House is dedicated to enabling people from throughout the Greater Providence area achieve their potential by removing obstacles that hinder them. Many Federal Hill House employees and volunteers have been with us for years; they know the community, they know the people, and they know the challenges. Together, we do our level best to help no matter how difficult the circumstances.
"We are always looking for people in the community who are willing to provide help..."
Not only do we provide every-day services like child care and programs for seniors . . . but we also work with people immediately affected by critical issues such as domestic abuse.
Although we do offer a set palette of services, we don’t limit ourselves to “one from column A, two from column B.” Rather, we focus on finding the best solutions for our individual clients, one at a time. Although we try to tailor our programs to accomplish frequently encountered objectives, nonetheless we work with everyone to help: simply enough, it’s people helping people.
Volunteers. We are always looking for people in the community who are willing to provide help, whether it’s working with us to deliver goods or services or volunteering in other capacities. Whether you can offer two hours a month or twenty, we are equally grateful. See Info for Prospective Donors or Volunteer Info on our website. We also sponsor a number of fundraising events, including our annual Walkathon, which enables many people to pitch in easily.
True to our mission of changing and evolving as our constituency’s needs change, Federal Hill House
stands as a symbol of strength, always seeking to provide for the social, educational, and emotional
needs of all those who seek our assistance.
All programs, except childcare, are free of charge. We welcome you to join us. Visit our facility, or call us at 401- 421-4722.
