December 2023 Newsletter

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

The holiday season can be filled with emotions for many of us: excitement for time together and time off; stress about “having enough” or “getting it all done”; longing for those no longer with us or who can’t be with us; hope for good things in the year to come; and sometimes, if we’re lucky, joy. I certainly know I feel all of these myself.

What I love about Federal Hill House is that we work to bring both resources and joy to the community we serve, fulfilling our mission to help our neighbors thrive, at every stage of life. We create connections that can reduce longing; we offer resources that can reduce stress; we amplify joy by celebrating the season together.

This season our food pantries are busy as ever; we’ll give gifts to the children and families in our programs; and we have multiple celebrations including for families, seniors, staff, and volunteers. Next week we’ll even have a “Winter Wonderland Bazaar” where children can “shop” for the holidays for their family members, showing them how giving is even more rewarding than receiving.

In the midst of all that’s going on both near and far, Federal Hill House is for many an anchor – a place to gather, a place to share your gifts with one another, and a place to access support.

Thank you for being a partner and supporter of our work. Enjoy this season of joy and giving, and enjoy the pictures below that show a bit of what FHH does to spread joy in our community. I look forward to our continued partnership in 2024.

Warmly,

Kimberly Fernandez

Executive Director

Family Event 12.15 Faces Covered

This morning, staff from across different programs came together and planned a holiday family event, which featured story time, puppetry, and holiday cookie decorating for our ELC and local families.

Our staff had a blast at Xaco Taco as we came together to celebrate the holiday season and the company of the FHH community.

The Gilda’s Pantry Fund held a drive at our 35 Swiss Street location to collect donations of funds, gift cards, and toys to be distributed to our neighbors throughout the holiday season! Thank you to the Jeffrey Family for establishing this fund to support our two busy food pantries and the community they serve.

We were blessed to participate in Hasbro’s Day of Joy again this year as volunteers refreshed and revamped our community spaces, classrooms, and playgrounds at Courtland Street. Thanks again to the Hasbro Day of Joy team for all the fantastic work!
