Our goal is for children to learn and have fun. We want them to have new experiences, learn and practice new skills, and develop friendships with their peers. We are committed to building positive relationships between all participants and the caring adults who will be working with them. We are committed to developing a joy of learning – recognizing that what happens outside of school plays a critical role in overall learning and growth.

Federal Hill House’s 2023 Summer Camp will feature a comprehensive nine week curriculum, with a new theme each week. We will also host Specialty Camps in Basketball and Performance, which will run for three weeks at a time for different age groups. The weekly schedule of themes, trips, and specialty camps can be found below.

Summer Program Dates & Times

Camp dates are Wednesday, June 28 through Wednesday, August 23, 2022. We are closed on Tuesday, July 4.

Program Location

Programming takes place at 35 Swiss Street. We use the entrance on Swiss Street to the left as you face the front of the building.

Week 1 (6/28-6/30): Friendship Week

Meet fellow campers to kick off the first week of Summer Camp!

Themed Field Trip: Lincoln Park Field Day

Week 2 (7/3-7/7): Heroes Week

Campers learn about their favorite superheroes while making their own capes and super powers, and at the end of the week meeting real world heroes at the fire station.

Themed Field Trip: Fire Trucks at FHH

Water Experience Field Trip: Houghton’s Pond

Week 3 (7/10-7/14): Oceans Week

Campers will dive deep into learning about oceans through activities, visiting the aquarium, and swimming.

Week 4 (7/17-7/21): Sports Week

Campers will learn about different sports such as football, soccer, tennis, and volleyball! STEM and Art activities for the week will be inspired by sports as well.

Week 5 (7/24-7/28): Adventures Across Time

Campers will take a trip to the past and learn about both natural history and the history of the people of Rhode Island.

Week 6 (7/31-8/4): Into the Wild

Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! Campers learn about different animals and experience various habitats.

Week 7 (8/7-8/11): Culture Week

Learn about the different cultures, customs, and traditions that make up our community.

Week 8 (8/14-8/18): Far Out Space

In a galaxy far, far away, the campers of Federal Hill House learn about space!

Week 9 (8/21-8/25): Art Week

Learn about art techniques and do fun arts and crafts with your fellow campers!

Week 10 (8/28-8/30): Spirit Week

Celebrate the final week of summer camp with excitement and fun for all, with carnival games, spirit days, and of course a trip to Waterwizz.

Themed Field Trip: Waterwizz 

Specialty Camps (Weeks 3 – 8, ages 7 – 12)

Performance Camp: Campers learn dancing, singing, choreography, and TikTok dances as part of their daily performance specialized instruction for three weeks. At the end of the three weeks, the performers will put on a choreographed show for all of the FHH summer camp to enjoy! Performance Camp takes place in weeks 3, 4, and 5 for ages 7 – 9, and weeks 6, 7, and 8 for ages 10 – 12. Campers in the Performance Camp will also participate in weekly themed field trips, swimming experiences, and themed STEAM activities. 

Basketball Camp: Campers that want to improve their basketball skills will have specialized basketball instruction for ten hours a week for this three week Basketball Camp. At the end of the three weeks, the Basketball Camp will have a tournament between the different teams. Basketball Camp takes place in weeks 3, 4, and 5 for ages 10 – 12 and weeks 6, 7, and 8 for ages 8 – 9. Campers in the Basketball Camp will also participate in weekly themed field trips, swimming experiences, and themed STEAM activities.

Arrival Time

  • Regular camp arrival time is between 8-8:30 a.m.
  • Please be sure to arrive by 8:30 a.m.
  • Staff are not available before 8 a.m. unless your child is signed up for before care.
  • Please do not leave your child outside the building before that time.

 

Pickup Time

  • Pickup time is between 4-4:30 p.m.
  • Please ensure all people authorized to pick up your child are in our system.
  • A parent / guardian must come to the front door to have children released.
  • Siblings under age 18 are not allowed to pick up children.
  • Please do not call your child on their cell phone to let them know you are coming. If you are in a hurry and want us to get your kids ready ahead of time, please call the program cell with an estimated time of arrival.
  • If you have signed up for after care, you may pick up your child(ren) between 4:30-5:30 p.m.

Naydy Jimenez, Swiss Street Site Coordinator

Naydy is responsible for the day-to-day management and implementation of the school age and summer learning programs. Naydy supervises program staff, oversees partnerships, and manages enrollment and parent communication. She ensures all Department of Human Services and Department of Health protocols are followed within the program.

Youth Development Counselors (YDCs)

Youth development counselors are responsible for care, safety, and engagement of youth in our summer learning program. YDCs are also positive, caring mentors and work to ensure a safe and cohesive group of youth.

 

Van Drivers

FHH has dedicated van drivers to escort and chaperone field trips.  Van drivers are at least 25 years old, have clean driving records, and a Chauffeur’s license.

 

See below for an outline of the different camps available for each grade! General Camp is divided into six different groups:

  • Achievers: Rising 1st graders
  • Champions: Campers entering grades 1-2
  • Dreamers: Campers entering grades 2-3
  • Explorers: Campers entering grades 3-4
  • Innovators: Campers entering grades 4-5
  • Visionaries: Campers entering grades 5-7

 

Performance Camp and Basketball Camp each run for three weeks, and are each offered for a younger session and an older session. Hope to see you there!
