Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)
FREE, confidential and quality tax returns prepared by IRS certified volunteers
VITA provides free tax preparation services for individuals and families making generally less than $58,000 per year, the elderly, persons with disabilities, and limited-English speakers. VITA ensures accurate and maximized tax returns that are e-filed for faster refunds.
Federal Hill House leads the Providence VITA/EITC (Earned Income Tax Credit) Coalition, a citywide partnership of eight sites providing free tax preparation services. The Providence VITA/EITC Coalition includes Amos House, Capital City Community Center, Center for Southeast Asians, Genesis Center, Mount Hope Neighborhood Association, OpenDoors, and the Providence Spanish SDA Church. VITA services are free and confidential and provide quality returns prepared by IRS-certified volunteers. VITA certified tax preparers make sure that taxpayers claim any Earned Income Tax Credit and other credits for which they qualify, so that our neighbors keep more of their hard earned income in their pockets.
While last year the Providence VITA/EITC Coalition had adopted virtual procedures during heightened COVID-19 times, we are moving forward with in-person appointments again. Our VITA sites will be operating in-person while still maintaining social distancing, mask-wearing, and thorough cleanings in-between visits and each day.
